A little about ourselves

     Our chess club is based in the growing community of  Craigieburn in Hume City located in North Melbourne;

     Each person is different. While some prefer physically strenuous activities such as footy, cricket and tennis others not so adept will chose a subdued and quiet game like chess. Everyone should be given a choice.

     We actively promote and support grassroots chess development in schools and suburbs around Hume for all ages.

     We welcome parents to join our membership roster to make our activities sustainable.

     Welcome to BANDICOOT CHESS CLUB 2019. We are organising two (2) tournaments for 2019, Hume Junior Chess Tournament and the BANDICOOT CHALLENGE.  Final dates to be announced later. In order to compete, you have to register and be a member of our chess club.  Please see flyer. To become a member, visit our Membership page.
     
     Bandicoot Chess Club is now part of a much bigger chess picture as library- based clubs and groups continue to sprout like mushrooms all over Melbourne.

     These collage of chess  activities are not organised but initiated by different chess-passionate people.

     East to West and North…

     From Craigieburn, Broadmeadows( The Age) and Sunbury in Hume, Yarra Plenty Regional libraries through Jim Cannon, chess tutor and father of David ( Under-16 OZ champ) will hold their tournament at Eltham and Thomastown libraries on 5 and 26 Nov 2016. Flemington library in Monee Valley just finished their own last July and now Wyndham City will also host their own tournament on 18 Nov 2016. Last year they had 50 entries and now the target is 70 players.

     The icing on the cake is these library tournaments are free entry! All you have to do is call and register! Trophies and medals for await the winners!

     Together, there will be around 9 chess tournaments spread around the year.

  • Congratulations to all our Junior participants and well done to our winners and awardees.  Anton captures first  with an undefeated string of 6 wins in the recently concluded Wyndham Junior Chess Tournament in Werribee last 18 November 2016. Not far behind, Nathan likewise had  a fine performance of 5 wins and a loss. Not bad for a beginner as he just started playing chess 5 months ago.

  • Congratulations Manuka Wathugederage from Aiken Creek Primary School for winning first and gets the star of the tournament trophy at the recently concluded Inter-School Chess Tournament in Dallas Brooks.   • We are excited to announce an upcoming set of changes to 4th HUME Junior.  Categories to change to  include our secondary players;  Under-16, Under 12 and Under-8.   • The Yarra Plenty Regional Library will hold 2 tournaments this year; November 5 Eltham Library and November 26 Thomastown Library. To register, call 94343809.
  • Broadmeadows The Age library will have its mixed age group chess tournament on 23 July 2016. To register, visit Broadmeadows The Age Library Chess tournament page.
  • Australian Junior Chess Team will compete in Slovakia on 21-30 July 2016 for the World U-16 Chess Olympiad. This team is composed of 5 top Victorian juniors.  They need our help to raise funds and appeals to our generosity in this crowdfunding site.
  • It's Official. The 3rd HUME JUNIOR CHESS TOURNAMENT will be on 20th February 2016 in partnership with Hume City Council/ Craigieburn Global Learning Centre(CGLC) through Ms. Amanda Forde, head librarian of CGLC. Watch-out for more details.

  • Congratulations to Danny Basobas and Ernest Sagalongos for winning first in the Sunbury Knockout Tournament held in Sunbury Library on 1st September 2015.
